This is one of the most spectacular buildings in Lübeck: The Music and Congress Centre serves as a concert hall, civic centre, exhibition hall and congress centre. Artists and visitors are highly appreciative of the acoustics.

A roof for music, art and science

In 1994, one of the most spectacular buildings in Lübeck opened its doors next to the River Trave: The Music and Congress Centre - called MuK by the people of Lübeck.

Created by top architect Meinhardt von Gerkan, it combines philharmonic, civic centre, congress centre and exhibition hall under one roof. The contemporary architecture of glass and steel provides a successful contrast to the historic Old Town opposite.

It has rapidly evolved into a venue with international standing: More than 300 events take place in the MuK every year, bringing together experts from science and research as well as lovers of art, music and theatre from all over the world.

Whether classic, rock or musicals, whether theatre, comedy or dance shows, the outstanding acoustics in the concert hall can confidently compete with other leading concert halls around the world.

The acoustics are world class

With its concert hall, the MuK has made a name for itself which goes far beyond its borders. International stars are just as delighted with the acoustics, which connoisseurs call "world class", just as the 100,000 visitors. World stars such as Lionel Hampton, Anne-Sophie Mutter, Alfred Brendel, Silbermond, Lang Lang, José Carreras and Natalie Cole have already experienced the stage at the concert hall.

During the summer season the Music and Congress Centre is the main venue of the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festivals.

The concerts by the Lübeck Philharmonic and the NDR Symphony Orchestra promise the highest level of concert enjoyment. There is a great source of comedy entertainment at the MuK with top performers such as Atze Schröder, Paul Panzer, Dieter Nuhr, Ralf Schmitz and Hagen Rether, who all regularly appear on the billing.

A few facts and figures:
Around 3,500,000 visitors came to the MuK to watch more than 5,500 events. If all the visitors were to queue at the box office at the same time it would be more than 1,800 km long!!!
