Enjoy a magnificent view of the sights in Lübeck's Old Town and the surrounding area from the viewing platform of St. Peter's Church.
St. Peter's has an eventful history behind it.
The Roman church, once three-naved, was built between 1227 and 1250 and expanded in the 15th and 16th century to a five-naved Gothic hall church. The church roof was destroyed during the Second World War and was provided with an emergency roof in 1960. Reconstruction was only completed in 1987.
Nowadays, St. Peter's is no longer used as a church. Instead, the 800-year-old light and airy church interior has evolved into a vibrant centre for events and exhibitions. A large arts and crafts market takes place here during the Christmas period.
Tip: There is hardly a better view of Lübeck than here: Sweeping views across Lübeck and the surrounding area can be seen from the 50 metre high viewing platform - on a good day, you can even see as far as the Baltic Sea!
Tip: Petri Vision On every first Saturday in the month, late in the evening at 11 pm, ethical questions are eloquently addressed in St. Peter's.
A stunning installation of lighting, old and new music, lyrics, dance and theatrical games determine the form and set the tone for the topics. Three short impulses, religious discourses in the best sense combine old motives and new questions. Voices from all areas of cultural and social life have an opportunity to speak. After a concentrated hour, there is still time to linger and take part in lively conversation and bread and wine.
