Even in its early days, Lübeck was a meeting place of historic importance.
In the Middle Ages the Hanseatic Days were held there - international conferences of the most powerful states in Europe and the world. The little alleys resounded with many different dialects and languages from the Baltic Sea area, foreign flags were blowing on the masts of the cogs in the harbour and topics such as politics, economy and finances were discussed. Today Lübeck, former leader of the trading alliance, is still carrying the name "Queen of the Hanseatic League" with pride. This is perhaps the reason why Lübeck has always been a cosmopolitan and tolerant city. The historic hanseatic town is still today an ideal place for any sort of meetings and conventions.
