Protection and Safety
For a long time Travemünde was the stronghold of Lübeck and therefore of strategic importance. This is reflected in the old brick bailiwick, once headquarters of the reeve. Its beautiful Renaissance entrance was built around 1600. Next to the colourful rococo door you will see the mark which indicates the highest water level during the storm tide in 1872, where many of Travemünde’s buildings were destroyed.
