Christmas markets Open Air

A stroll around the Christmas fair area, which was first mentioned in 1648, is a must for all Lübeck visitors. The Market and its some 400 merchants offer toys and Christmas decoration, gingerbread, hot spiced wine and many other things.
The historic Christmas market at St Mary’s church makes visitors travel through time - medieval flair amidst of modern Lübeck. There is also a fairytale forest where you can meet Little Red Riding Hood, Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella.

Christmas Fairytale Forest at St. Mary's Church

For 30 years the Lübeck Fairytale Forest has been a festive attraction. 500 illuminated fir-trees and 21 fairytale showpieces illustrate stories written by the Brothers Grimm. Fairytales are appreciated by both children and adults alike. Further attractions are a little train going through the Fairytale Forest and a merry-go-round.

Craftsmarket inside St. Peter's Church
25th November – 19th December 2010
More than 50 craftsmen from Northern Germany offer their goods in the historical surrounding of St Peter’s church, which was built some 800 years ago. The five-naved church with its slim gothic pillars, the sun illuminated bright room and the lively floor is a jewel of gothic brick architecture. During World War II, the building was heavily destroyed. After its restoration, the church is also a place of contemporary culture today.
The craftsmen offer great things and invite to the church decorated for Christmas. Visitors can look forward to detailed ceramics, excellent wooden pieces, textile art, jewellery, glass and amber, wool and weaving works. Furthermore, there will be paintings, classic toys and soapstone, tin and leather art works.
The Church cafeteria and the restaurant in the church’s yard ensure that guests will not lack of anything. Highlight of the market is certainly the lift. It takes you to the viewing platform where you have an overwhelming view on Lübeck.

Craftsmen's Christmas Fair inside the Hospital of the Holy Spirit
26th November – 6th December 2010
This arts- and crafts market in the festively decorated church hall and in the small cabins of the long hall of the historic Hospital of the Holy Spirit is unique. The ambience of this medieval building with its beautiful wall paintings and art treasures is a perfect location for visitors to find high-quality arts and crafts made of ceramics, wood, glass, wool, silk and leather, gold and silver as well as iron. There are dolls and puppets, basketworks and books. The exhibitors come from all over Germany and Northern Europe.
